Works as a Musician

My primary musical project over the past few years has been Macho Macho, which I am a founding member and the bass player/vocalist for.  We have been fortunate to be able to record and release two EPs, go on multiple national tours, and even take a trip to Australia to tour with Flying Nun band Ringlets in Melbourne and Sydney.  We are currently writing an album.  I have also released solo work under the artist moniker ‘Malt’.

Macho Macho - Blink Single/Music Video - 2023

Musician/Songwriter

This single/music video was released after we received NZ on Air’s New Music Single funding grant.  The total budget for this project was $10,000, which allowed us to work with acclaimed producer/engineer Toby Lloyd (Tiny Triumph Recordings) as well as director Samuel Austin (Don’t Shoot Films).  The single was promoted by Lil Sister PR, based in Auckland.

Musician/Songwriter/Recording, Mixing and Mastering Engineer

My first release as a solo artist.  This work focussed on the use of gritty, noisy sound textures within simple and familiar pop song structures.  I was the sole writer, producer and mastering engineer for this release.

Macho Macho - Australia & Aotearoa Tour - 2025

Musician/Songwriter

Macho Macho received the opportunity to tour Australia with Flying Nun artist Ringlets this year.  This was an invaluable experience for us as a band to extend our reach across the Tasman Sea.  We ended up playing four shows across Melbourne and Sydney, two of them promoted by Junkmail (Ringlets management) and two of them promoted by ourselves.  The tour was a great success as we interacted with local bands and gained new supporters.
